Governor Sununu recently toured the completed Phase 1 of the Golden Brook Elementary School construction project in Windham NH. Banwell Architects designed the new facility and DEW/The MacMillin Company is the construction manager. The school will be one of the largest Elementary Schools in the state of NH and will be able to house up to 1,200 students. The building has been designed to be organized in houses to create a smaller scale for each of the grades (pre-k through fourth grade). Each wing will have it’s own identifying color and materials. The program also included many 21st-century educational program improvements including project-based learning rooms, an updated learning commons, social spaces, a full-size gymnasium with a stage that can be used by all grades. The entire site has been updated and improved including additional parking, a new bus loop and separate parent drop off loop and improvements to playing fields and playgrounds. Energy efficiency was included in the design as well as daylighting of spaces. School safety was also considered in the design. Phase 2 is currently under construction and plans to be complete in August 2019.
